Neck Lift Surgery

Neck lift is a surgical operation that involves removing excess skin and fat to eliminate wrinkles and sagging in the neck area.

With the operation, the neck skin, especially in the jowl region, the underneath fat and muscle tissue are stretched. Neck lift aims to obtain a thinner and younger appearance. It can be performed in combination with face lift, eyelid surgery, botox, and other filling operations if necessary.

Neck Lift Surgery Procedure

Neck lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. Sedation may also be preferred in some cases. The average duration of the operation can vary between 3 and 5 hours. 

The incision begins in front of the ear and proceeds under the earlobe into the scalp. Besides that, an incision can also be made under the chin. Flabby structures are tightened by intervening in the muscle tissue. Excess fat is removed from the stretched skin and reshaped. The neck and face area can be touched at the same time with this process. Small tubes, called drains, are placed to discharge excess blood. In addition, liposuction application can just be preferred to remove the sagging caused by excessive fattening in the jowl area.

Neck Lift Surgery: Who can be a good candidate?

Neck lift surgery is ideal for people with impaired skin form in the neck area due to genetics, smoking and alcohol consumption, stress, weight fluctuation, and aging. People over the age of 40 who want to have a thinner and more smooth neck area may prefer neck lift surgery.

Neck Lift Surgery: Recovery 

There may be a slight tightness in the neck after neck lift surgery. There is usually no intense pain. There may be swelling and bruising that is expected to disappear within a week or two. Ice compress can be done for these types of side effects. A special garment may also be recommended by the surgeon. Heavy exercises should be avoided for one month after the surgery. It is also recommended not to lift heavy objects during the same period. 

The drains used in the surgery are removed within a few days, and it takes an average of 1 week for the bandages to take off. The incision scars remain behind the ears and therefore, they are not visible. These scars are expected to disappear completely within a period of 6 to 12 months.
